South West Scotland Overhead Powerlines
Practecology was commissioned to undertake habitat surveys and a reptile survey along 24km of route close to Dalmellington and New Cumnock, South Ayrshire.
Ecological Surveys Completed
It is proposed to upgrade the existing network and build new electrical sub-stations to improve local supply. Much of the route is through an upland landscape dominated by existing commercial forestry plantation and unimproved grassland. Several areas of the scheme were assessed for their potential to support protected species including bats, red squirrel, badgers and otter. As well as sightings of osprey, peregrine, goshawk and common lizard, we also found evidence of wild boar.
